We start teaching one of my favourite topics to the second year A level students this week. I so enjoy doing the silver mirror demonstration as it's one of those wow moments of the course. Our students follow a flipped learning model so they have looked at the oxidation of aldehydes in principle before the lesson. The topic really comes alive once they can see the oxidation in action. For this demonstration you use glucose so with more able students you can get them to look into the ring and chain forms of glucose.
